I’ve hear so many people talking about the Harvard Business Review titled “How Successful People Reach Their Goals” that I had read it for myself. This is what I gathered from the article. Here are five tips for you to reach your business goals as a vocalist/musician!
Get Specific: The more precise you are with your goal, the easier it will be to reach and attain it. It’s better to have the goal of booking five new gigs in the next 30 days than to have your goal be to go on tour with no bookings lined up. You can come up with a plan and also the action steps that you need to book five gigs, but simply wanting to go on tour with no gigs lined up, is way too vague.
Seize the Moment to Act on Your Goals: Having a specific goal is great, but you need to take the steps to make it happen! If that feels overwhelming to you, break down your day into one-hour (or half-hour segments), and write down detailed tasks that you can complete in order get you closer to your goal. It’s all about Time Management.
Focus on getting better rather than being good: AKA, do not be so hard on yourself for having not already reached your biggest goal yet. Instead, celebrate that you’re making progress and that you’re on your way toward accomplishing your dream goal!
Focus on What You Will Do, Not What You Won’t Do: In any situation, there will always be obstacles to prevent you from your goals. Those obstacles can come in many forms and most times I find that they are within the mind. The naysayer of your mind can be a very scary and convincing thing. Once you acknowledge your obstacles, focus on finding solutions to overcome them. This is where you can break down your to-do’s on getting those five gigs. If you have trouble booking the five gigs, you might need to recap what didn’t work for you so that you can continue to make progress. Try brainstorming on all of the ideas that you have toward getting those five gigs, jot it all down in a notebook, and make a plan from there.
Get Started: 1.) You have a specific goal. 2.) You have your to-do list. 3.) You have to take action! As with all things, everything might not always go according to plan, but you need to take action to learn what works and what doesn’t work for you along the way. Allow the things that didn’t work for you to be lessons on what to avoid and what to do differently. Focus and stay dedicated to accomplishing your goals.
Everyone has different goals and different ways of accomplishing them. Stay focused on your specific goals and be mindful of the best path to get reach them. There is no exact method to turn your goals into reality. Remember that it’s not the map but the person navigating the course that determines where you’ll go!
YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH YOUR GOALS. I BELIEVE IN YOU!
