The definition of success is never concrete, but often times vocalists are considered successful if they have a recording contract, live in a multi-million dollar home, have a lot of fans/social media followers, and/or go on World Tours. Let’s be honest: it is very easy to get caught up with other people’s success, but you do not need to fit a certain mold in order to have your own success. As vocalists, we are tempted to look at other singers and idolize what they have, simply because we don’t have it. Do we really want someone else’s definition of success though? The most important question is, “What does success mean to me?”. Once you have a clear answer, allow how you define your success to guide and direct your future decisions. Stay focused on YOUR definition of success and remember, you are the captain of your destiny, so stay away from tempestuous waters that might sway your ship.
Please know:
Singing in a cover band is okay.
Not selling millions of records or going on a large tour is okay.
Not having your own make-up artist and hairstylist is okay.
Not making a million dollars a year is okay.
What other vocalists consider success might be the last thing that you want. I encourage you to succeed on your terms.

While I wouldn’t mind having luxurious things or personal assistants (I wouldn’t complain if I had a personal chef to cook healthy meals for me every day!), they wouldn’t define my success. Why? Because if getting the personal chef meant working so much I couldn’t create every day or spend quality time with my family (two of many things that define success for me), then I would be left empty and unfulfilled.
Having things or personal assistants isn’t what defines success; living the life of YOUR DREAMS is.
Believe in your Dreams 🙂
